The first Tropical Storm of the Atlantic season; "Alex" formed today. The the center of the storm was nearly due east of Savannah or about 90 miles south of Charleston and was nearly stationary. A slow drift northward then northeastward motion is expected. Most of the convection associated with this storm is south of the center of rotation off the Georgia coast in the warm waters of 85 degrees. A tropical Storm Watch is in effect from Edisto Beach, South Carolina to Cape Fear, NC and a Tropical Storm Warning is in effect from there to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.

The Satellite passed over the area from SSE to NNW at 3:52 PM EDT.
